Although I'd already had the chance to meet M'Kinley through my Senior Rep Team, her questionnaire gave me an even better glimpse into what mattered most to her. She shared that she loves shopping, movie nights, cheering for Cooper High School, and wanted her senior photos to feel natural and timeless. Reading through her answers made me even more excited for her personal senior session because I knew we were going to create something that genuinely reflected this exciting season of her life.
When M'Kinley stepped in front of my camera for her personal session, she was exactly the same sweet, genuine person I'd already gotten to know. She has such a calm, genuine personality that immediately puts people at ease. She's the kind of person who doesn't need to be the loudest in the room to stand out. Her confidence is quiet, authentic, and that's exactly what I hoped these photos would capture.
Golden hour definitely showed off for us that evening. The soft light, tall grass, and warm summer colors gave everything the dreamy, earthy feel that matched her style perfectly. It was one of those evenings where everything simply fell into place.
We also made time to include M'Kinley's two dogs, which added so much personality to the evening. Her puppy brought plenty of excitement with nonstop barking and playful energy, while her older dog balanced everything out with a much calmer presence.
Some of my favorite moments weren't planned at all, they happened in between the poses, when everyone was laughing and simply enjoying the moment together. Those are the memories I hope she'll remember just as much as the photos themselves.
Throughout the session, M'Kinley trusted the process completely. Sometimes the best images happen in the simplest places. A quiet trail or the way the sun filters through the trees. We weren't rushing from one elaborate setup to another. Instead, we slowed down, explored, and let the evening unfold naturally. Those are usually the sessions that end up feeling the most genuine.
As one of my Class of 2027 Shadow & Light Portraits Senior Reps, this is only the beginning of her senior year story. I'm looking forward to documenting the rest of her senior year and celebrating another milestone together during her cap and gown session this spring.
M'Kinley, thank you for trusting me with such a special season of your life. It was such a joy getting to know you better, and I hope every time you look back through these images, you're reminded of this chapter exactly as it felt, full of excitement, confidence, and anticipation of everything that's still ahead.
