5 Things to Know Before Your Senior Photo Session in Abilene, TX

Senior photos can feel exciting… and a little nerve-wracking.

If you’ve never been in front of a camera before, it’s completely normal to wonder things like “What do I wear?” or “What if I’m awkward?”

After photographing seniors in Abilene, here are the five things almost every senior wishes they knew before their session.

1. You Do NOT Have to Know How to Pose

This is probably the biggest worry I hear.

The good news? You don’t have to show up knowing what to do.

My job is to guide you through posing in a way that feels natural and looks like you — nothing stiff, overly posed, or awkward. Most of my seniors tell me within the first few minutes:

"Okay… this is actually way easier than I thought."

The best photos usually happen in movement, little laughs, and in-between moments.

2. The Right Outfit Changes Everything

What you wear makes a huge difference in how your photos feel.

The best senior sessions happen when outfits match the overall vibe and location. A flowy dress in a field feels completely different than an edgy downtown outfit.

That’s why I help with outfit planning before your session so everything feels cohesive and true to your style.

A good rule? Bring outfits that feel like the best version of you — not trends you’ll cringe at in five years.

3. Golden Hour Really Is Worth It

TThere’s a reason photographers talk about golden hour so much.

That soft, glowy light right before sunset creates the cinematic, dreamy feeling you see throughout my work. It helps skin tones look beautiful and gives images that warm, timeless feel.

Sometimes that means shooting later in the evening, especially during Texas summers, but trust me, it’s worth it.

4. Senior Photos Don’t Have to Feel Generic

Your senior year is about your story.

Love books? Bring them. Play guitar? Let’s include it. Want downtown fashion vibes, dreamy fields, lake photos, or something more creative? We can make it feel personal.

The best senior sessions feel like you, not a copy of someone else’s Pinterest board.

5. You’ll Probably Love Your Photos More Than You Expect

Almost every senior starts by saying some version of:

"I’m awkward in pictures."

And almost every one leaves saying:

"Wait… that was actually fun!"

Senior photos are more than checking something off the graduation list. They’re a way to remember who you were in this season of life — before everything changes.

And one day, these photos will mean even more than they do now.
